Crisis Skylight Brent is currently recruiting a Housing Coach to join a successful and busy housing service supporting those homeless or at risk of homelessness in Brent. The Single Homeless Prevention Service (SHPS) is funded through the Life Chances Fund and Brent Council and is delivered in partnership with Crisis Brent and the UK’s leading investor in Social Impact Bonds, Bridges. SHPS is a payment by results service that supports local people with low to medium support needs who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to remain in their homes or access accommodation in the private rented sector. We receive referrals from Brent Council of individuals who are owed a relief or prevention duty by their local authority. SHPS conducts personal housing plans and supports clients with casework to relief or prevent homelessness and provides eight months’ tenancy sustainment support. SHPS works with ca. 500 individuals per year. The service works with a variety of statutory and voluntary organisations as well as a range of landlords to ensure beneficiaries receive timely and appropriate support to prevent and relief homelessness.

About the role

As a SHPS Housing Coach you will be working with individuals to prevent or relief homelessness by sourcing suitable and sustainable private rented sector accommodation. You will also support individuals to address any other support needs they may have which are a barrier to achieving their goals and ending their homelessness by linking them with relevant agencies. This role requires skilled delivery of a range of interventions and a passion for working with those who face multiple disadvantages in society.

This role is based on a 12 month fixed term with the potential to be extended.

To be successful in this role you will have proven experience and skills in the following areas:

  • Demonstrating a pro-active and solution-focused approach to supporting individuals to end their homelessness and meeting key performance indicators of the service
  • Supporting people to prevent and relief homelessness by enabling access to suitable and sustainable accommodation
  • Liaising with a range of stakeholders effectively to achieve the best possible outcome for the people you work with (local authorities, DWP, landlords etc.)
  • Appetite and ability to working in a fast-paced and result focused environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and admin skills to manage a client caseload and own workload
