Whilst the Venture Studio supports, builds and invests in start-ups, it itself is a start-up within Crisis. We’re in full growth mode, building the future for social change within the charity sector. We have had an exciting first two years - backing our first few companies, being shortlisted as the PropTech Investor of the Year, giving out 100+ grants and growing a diverse community around our mission and portfolio. Now it's time to build on our successful track record of starting businesses from scratch and define our approach to Venture Building.
About the role
As part of the first team to tackle homelessness using entrepreneurship, you have an opportunity to lead the development of our venture building work and accelerate the end of homelessness.
You will work alongside the Venture Studio team, the entrepreneurs we support, internal expert colleagues, and a network of external advisors, partners and mentors. You will build and embed processes that enable Crisis to explore and build ventures from scratch, clearly prioritizing those with the biggest potential to impact homelessness at scale.
You will also grow and nurture our community of entrepreneurs and influencers by making the challenges and solutions around ending homelessness accessible and drawing on the community to define prioritize.
Collaborating with people who have lived experience of homelessness is an important part of our plan to end homelessness. You will strengthen our work around co-production with Experts by Experience, working to incorporate lived experience in our decision-making process. You will be responsible for opening doors between Crisis Members and our pipeline, portfolio, partners, and processes.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of what makes a great business and how to commercialize opportunities. You will enjoy building your way out of uncertainty and learning at pace in a live environment working collaboratively within a team. We will work with you to put in place learning and development opportunities to set you up for success.
To be successful in this role you will have:
Proven ability and experience developing ventures from pre-idea stage to scale within organisational environment
Ability to design and embed venture building process within organisations
Have a deep understanding of what makes a great business and how to commercialize opportunities
Have extensive experience developing new products, services, and businesses models, including ability to make financial models
Be able to identify opportunities by looking at user needs and broader market trends and working directly with users and beneficiaries of services to identify needs
Experience developing and embedding frameworks and processes to identify key risks and validate hypotheses
